Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Reisling 'Roche Granitique'

$4711
750 ml
2020

Winemaker Notes:  This ‘new’ wine label complements now the ‘roches’ series. As its name indicates it, all the vineyards are located on the poor granitic soils of the Brand hillside. It is in fact the second wine of the Grand Cru Brand. It is a very interesting experience to compare the three Rieslings side by side (Granite, Calcaire, Volcanic) in order to understand the influence of soil origin on the nature of the wine. These precocious and warm granitic soils produce wines that have a vertical structure, always expressive at a young age and never shy on their aromatic potential. These were the first Rieslings harvested but the fermentation took a year to complete.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "From predominantly younger, 20+-year-old vines in the Grand Cru Brand, the 2020 Riesling Roche Granitique shows an intense yellow color and a beautifully intense, complex and aromatic yet pure nose with perfectly ripe tropical fruit aromas intertwined with delicate and saline granite notes. On the palate, this is a rich and intense, almost Traminer-like Riesling with lush and intense, powerful fruit and big complexity. The power is richness balanced by great mineral acidity and fine tannin grip that makes this an impressive wine at this price point. Bottled bone dry with 13.9% stated alcohol in January this year. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022."

Wine Spectator - "A lightly fleshy, light- to medium-bodied white, with juicy acidity and a zesty underpinning enlivening well-knit flavors of honeyed apricot, mandarin orange peel, grated ginger and slate. Drink now through 2028. 60 cases imported."
